CAJA

caja

In Brazil, more correctly in the North Eastern region of Ceara, the caja is known as “the gold of Ceara” owing to the fact that the region produces 80% of Caja. The fruit is a reddish-yellow and is pear shaped, unlike the cashew which is the edible nut of the Caju. It’s still very popular among smoothie enthusiasts in Brazil – it has an interesting sweet-bitter flavour that leaves an indescribable sensation in the mouth. It’s flesh is rich in vitamin A, B6, C as well as Iron and Potassium. Like Acai, the Caja has strong antioxidant properties but traps other types of free radicals – the two fruits complement each other in this sense. The Caja also strengthens the immune system and is recommended for sufferers of rheumatism and stress. It is also recommended for Diabetics and can lessen excessive sweating on hot days.
