GUAVA
The Guava originates in southern Mexico and Central America, but is now cultivated in many tropical regions. It is common in Brazil, Africa, Asia and most of all India. Due to its widespread distribution it is known by many names: Guava (English), Guayabo or Guayavo (Spanish) and Goiaba (Portuguese). The colour of the flesh varies from white to yellow to pink and the flavour is a mix of quince, pear and fig. Due to its aromatic, refreshing flavour, it is one of the principle ingredients in the Brazilian ice cream, juice and frozen pulp industries. The Guava has a high nutritional content with high levels of vitamin C, A, B1 and B2, as well as Potassium and Fibre. The vitamin C content is substantially higher than that of the orange, and it is also rich in Pectin and thanks to its vitamin content it helps ward off colds and treat scars and burns.
